FAQ

What is counseling?

Counseling is a process for exploring issues, using your strengths, and developing skills to create change. It is not about a counselor telling you what to do.

Is therapy confidential?

Counseling is confidential, but there are exceptions, such as when there is an imminent danger to yourself or others, or in cases of child or elder abuse.

How long will it take?

The length of counseling varies greatly depending on the individual and the issues being addressed. Some brief counseling may last a few months, while other situations may require longer-term therapy.

What can I expect in a session?

Sessions can involve exploring current issues, setting goals, and learning new skills. The counselors may provide "homework" to practice skills outside of sessions.

What are the costs? Will my insurance cover services?

We accept BCBS, Anthem, Aetna, CIGNA, United/Optum, and out-of-pocket. Some insurances do require a copay; we encourage you to contact your provider to see their fees.

How long are the sessions?

Sessions are often around 45-50 minutes long, but this can vary.

Can I do it online or in person?

You can choose between tele-mental health (online) or traditional face-to-face counseling. It's important to understand the differences and benefits of each option.

What’s the cancellation policy?

We require a 24-hour notice before the appointment. If it is within the time limit, there is a full rate session charge of $130.

Finding the right therapist

  1. How do I know if it's the right fit?

A strong connection is crucial. You should feel comfortable, able to be honest, and confident that the therapist understands your concerns and can help you.

  2. What if I know someone who could benefit?

A counselor may not be able to see both you and someone you know personally due to the potential for conflicts of interest.

  3. Can I see the same person for individual and couples counseling?

This depends on the therapist and the specific situation, and you should ask about this directly.
